We can not take all of the credit for the images in today’s post. We were lucky enough to have a tiny princess on hand to make these photos come true! Sporting a lovely gown and sparkly wand she dazzled all of us in the studio. These fairytale like photos are adorable and really capture the spirit of this amazing little girl. We have been photographing her since she was a baby and have loved watching her grow up. As these photos show she has a HUGE personality! We can’t wait to see what her and her mother bring in next! Greyhound Portraits, Richmond, Virginia

I seem to be on a dog blog kick here lately. Those who are familiar with us know that we are a very dog friendly studio. We are located in an outdoor mall that allows visitors to bring their pups along for a little shopping. Many of our client choose to have their dogs photographed or include them in the family portrait. We also have studio visitors who pop by with their dogs to say hello when our gallery is open. We usually bring our furry guys and gals into work, so these visits are always a favorite part of the day for them. The breed I will post about today are Greyhounds and Italian Greyhounds. We photographed a family of these great looking dogs recently. One is a Greyhound and the two smaller are the Italian Greyhounds. Many are familiar with Whippets, these smaller dogs are similar to those. They are small in stature and very delicate animals. All of the Italian Greyhounds we have photographed seem to be very loyal to their owners. They just want to be loved on and held. As you can see from the photographs below these animals are beautiful. The color of the large Greyhound is stunning (she looks great in black and white too.) The fur on the Italians is very fine, you can see their little skin spots. They really make a great trio. The photographs that came out of this session were some of our favorite from 2011. They are classically beautiful animals.

Great Dane Portraits, Richmond, Virginia

We sure do see many breeds here at the studio. There is one breed in particular that seems to draw people into our front doors. These are the Great Danes. Brothers Huey and Beaux brought some foot traffic into our gallery during their visit last month. Each time they have been in people walking by our windows stop to stare or come in to say hello. You can not help but to pause and look at these amazing animals. They are gentle giants indeed. Beaux (pointy ears) is the newest member of the family, but seemed to fit right in and was able to go with the flow. These guys have such a sweet disposition. The funniest thing to see was their play toy. Imagine one of those large stuffed animals you get at the fair for squirting a water gun at a clown. The difference in size of the toy next to Roscoe and Stella’s (our studio dogs) toys had us all laughing. Enjoy the photos below from their session. Every year we do a holiday themed portrait session with all of the employees here at WJ. This year what started out being a formal group portrait turned into a fun night of laughter and a little play time for the dogs. I decided to post the outtakes from that night. Wow! Once again it has been forever since I have been able to post! We are in the thick of the holiday season and are busy, busy, busy. Now that we are so close to all of the holidays beginning next week I thought I would take a second to post some of our favorite holiday cards past and present. I will be posting some close to the New Year, so that I do not spoil a card surprise for anyone. Below you will see some great portraits and fun holiday card designs. Closer to the bottom of this photo list you will notice the same family over and over again. They have been having their holiday cards made with us since we were in the old Plant Zero Art Center studio and are our dear friends. You also may notice that in the last card there is a new member who has been added to this fun family tradition! Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

A Tribute to Lucy of Cooper Vineyards

We have been getting a great response to our November Photo of The Month. I thought I would let everyone know why this is an extra special photograph. It is the adorable photo featured below of a sweet old hound named Lucy. Sadly, one week after this photo was taken Lucy passed away. She lived a long happy life at Cooper Vineyards in Louisa, where she became the resident celebrity and mascot. She was rescued by her owner/mom Jacque in 2001 after she was found hit by a car and shot. She recovered and lived in happiness until this past October. The Richmond SPCA will be naming one of their runs in her honor. Everyone here at the studio had a chance to meet her and she was a gentle old soul. Her loving spirit was definitely something special. She will be dearly missed.

Hospital Hospitality House, SAVOR The White House 2011, Charity, Richmond, Virginia

Woah! Long time no see. It has been quite some time since I have had time to sit down and make a new post. It is about time! We have been very busy here in the studio. It is that time of the year for us where we are bustling around and preparing for the holiday season. I wanted to take a minute and fill you in on the run in Beth and Wolfgang had with Bill and Hilary. You know the ones! THE Bill and Hilary. A few weeks ago Beth and Wolfgang photographed the SAVOR The White House event at the Country Club of Virginia. This annual event raises money for the Hospital Hospitality House organization. This year approximately $150,000 was raised during this state dinner themed event. Chef Roland Mesnier was the host and VIP of this great night. Chef Roland served as the White House Executive Pastry Chef for 26 years. He has presided over more than 600 state dinners. As you will see in the photos below the meal Chef Roland and his team created were out of this world! The real icing on the cake for everyone was the special appearance by President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton with their security detail in tow. Bill and Hilary entertained the crowd and helped raise some big money during the live auction.

We have been working with the HHH for several years now. We know that staff well, have met several donors and those who at one time or another have stayed at the house. ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation, Charity, Richmond, Virginia

Last weekend we attended and photographed one of the great charity events held each year at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. This event was a gala for the ASK (Assistance, Support and Kindness) Childhood Cancer Foundation. This amazing organization provides financial, spiritual, social and emotional support directly to over 1000 children and their families annually. Their mission is simple: “Making life better for children with cancer.” Please take a few minutes and visit their website www.askweb.org for more information on their mission and to make a donation. Below are a few photos from the event. While we all enjoyed the silent and live auction, music by The Doctors of Jazz, food, dancing, fun; the real reason we were there was to celebrate the lives of these patients and raise money to assist children and their families during a devastating time in their lives. This was a wonderful evening for all in attendance. We can not wait to see everyone again next year!

We have had the joy of having a couple of very happy babies here with us in the studio. I thought we would share a few photos since they are incredibly cute! Schipperke portraits, Pet portraits in Richmond, Virginia

As I (Crystal) have said in previous posts, having the opportunity to meet just about every breed of domesticated animal is a definite perk of this job. Our studio is located in the dog friendly Stony Point Fashion Park. While dogs are the main attraction, every now and again you will spot a cat, bird or pig strolling by. We have the privilege of meeting new dogs and their families who walk by the studio every day. One dog in particular that has caught all of our eyes is the Schipperke. These little black dogs resemble foxes and have a very sassy attitude. We were lucky enough to have Mattie, a beautiful three year old Schipperke, come into our studio for some fun portraits. You can check out some very striking portraits I have added below (we also did something fun for the holidays, but you will have to wait for that!) I have done some brief research on these cute little guys and it seems there is not a general consensus on where they get their name. Schipperkes are a Belgian breed. Some say that the name is a translation of “little boatman” as they were used as watch dogs on boats. The other explaination is that the word Schipperke is a misspelled word for “little shepherd.” This is probable because they strongly resemble the Groenendael, which is a Belgian sheepdog. It seems like there could be an entire book of theories about the origins of this little pup. They are spunky, tiny, fluffy and have pointed ears. Mattie was very exploratory and seemed to be in charge when she was wandering the studio. We hope to see her around often!
