The Journey is Well Worth It

Wolfgang Jasper

An artist and photographer, devoted to his family and friends, and one who is embarking on an exciting new journey.

Born in 1949 in Germany and immigrating to the United States at the age of 8, Wolfgang began on his artistic journey as a musician (a drummer in jazz bands) when he was just 12 years old. One morning while serving in Vietnam at age 20, he thought to himself, “When I leave the military, I’m going to be a photographer.” Thus began his life passion and journey as a classically trained artist, teacher, and photographer.

During his college years, photography was his major but a painting class would change his life’s course. An Associate’s Degree in Photography would form a solid foundation for his photographic technique. A Bachelor’s along with a Master’s of Fine Arts Degree in Painting and Printmaking would form the basis for the work that he creates through the camera’s lens today.

It has been said that a person must put in 10,000 hours to become proficient in an endeavor! Over the past 40+ years, Wolfgang has met and enjoyed photographing thousands of families, children, and pets. He is also prolific in photographing nature, landscapes, and almost anything that catches his eye. An active member of the Virginia Professional Photographers’ Association (VPPA), and the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), he has been a recipient of numerous photographic awards. Both his photography and paintings have been shown on an international scale.

Wolfgang has decided to begin a new chapter in his career in 2015. This will be a time for him to return to his “roots” and to embody that which drives his creative spirit. On February 1st, 2015, he will be closing his doors at his studio at Stony Point Fashion Park to return to the art studio where he will focus on his drawing and painting. He will continue to welcome a limited number of commissioned-based requests for location and conceptual photographic portraiture and will be available for some freelance portrait work.

Beth, whose passion lies in the fine art realm, has been a co-owner of Wolfgang Jasper Photography and has been an integral part of the business operations from day one. She is excited about devoting more time to her painting as well as continuing to expand the business into digital product and interior art and design.

This is a very exciting time in both Wolfgang’s and Beth’s lives! Please join me in congratulating them on their new endeavor!

  1. So sorry to see you go. I know it wasn’t a light decision. Will miss you!

  2. So exciting to see you returning to your other artistic roots! 🙂 This must have been a difficult decision for you two. But, I always have my sons’ 2010 senior portrait to remember you! Everyone always comments how different it is from his siblings…I tell them it is because an artist did Daniels’ portraits, not just a photographer. And I will always love your work.

  3. WoW! Wolf! Very Big decision!

  4. [yay!] [quiet little cheer] Looking forward to seeing some work, both of you!
